I have been working as a counselor/psychotherapist for the last 12 years. My background includes working at inpatient treatment programs for alcohol and drug addiction as well as eating disorder treatment in Tucson, Arizona. I have been in private practice in Durango and Dolores for the past eight years.
I have recently relocated my Dolores office to Cortez, Colorado. That office, the Heart Path House, includes several practitioners offering Hakomi therapy, massage therapy, aromatherapy, acupuncture, Body Talk, and midwifery.
Prior to working as a therapist I worked for many years in the field of education, most recently as Coordinator of Continuing Education at Colorado State University in Fort Collins and prior to that as Admissions Director and Dean of Students at The Desert Institute of Healing Arts in Tucson, Arizona.
My educational background includes a Masters degree in Womens Studies from San Francisco State University and a Masters degree in Counseling & Psychotherapy from Prescott College. I am a graduate of the Hakomi Body-Centered Psychotherapy Program in Boulder, Colorado and I recently completed EMDR training to address issues of trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). My eclectic psychotherapy background includes work with Jungian Mandalas, Expressive Art Therapy, 12-step recovery and body image issues.
Through my work with women with eating disorders both inpatient and outpatient, I created a slide show on body image entitled: "The Body Conspiracy: Advertising's Influence on Womens Self Esteem" which has been shown at various venues in the four corners area.
In addition to my private practice, in the last two years I have been working with Buffalo Woman Ranch in Dove Creek, Colorado an equine facilitated integrated learning program. I bring my experience as
a Hakomi therapist to that arena where we work with the horses to help in an individual's healing process.
My history includes being part of a group who started a Lesbian & Gay Community Center in Tucson, Arizona - http://www.wingspan.org/media/2002_03.pdf I am available to work with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered community members on issues related to their sexual orientation as well as life issues.
